Things to do in Panama
Taboga Island is located around 20km from Panama City, in Panama Bay. It is also known as the Island of Flowers due to its beautiful palm trees, hibiscus, and jasmines.
Taboga is a little town, very laid back, perfect as a get away day trip from Panama City. There is not much to do there but soak up the sun in the soft sand beaches, take a nice swim in the clear blue waters or simply enjoy the sea breeze while reading your favorite book on the beach.
For the adventurous type, you can also take a hiking trail to Cerro Vigia or Cerro de la Cruz to enrich your visit with a magnificent view of the town and the Pacific Ocean. However, bear in mind that there is not many signposts to show you how to get there, so it is recommendable to ask locals to help you find these trails or serve as your guide.
In addition, the town is very rich in history as it was founded in the 16th century and it is home to San Pedro Church, claimed to be the second oldest church in the western hemisphere. Nowadays, the church is rarely open but you can still admire its architecture from outside.
There are some restaurants and accommodation spots in the town if you want to extend your stay in the Island.
How to get there?
There is a daily ferry service from Isla Naos in Causeway, Amador ran by Barcos Calypso (phone number shown on profile).
It takes around 45 minutes to get there.
