Mercado de Marisco is a must do in Panama City , bare in mind it’s a tourist trap( but locals do eat there )and it can be a bit overwhelming with 25 restaurant hosts trying to get your business. There all very friendly and if you say let us explore a bit they will tell you just come back and we will have a table for you . Our host and server Benjamin was fantastic and helpful. We had a free sample of corvina (sea bass) ceviche, then ordered a medium mixed seafood ceviche ( octopus, squid and shrimp ) with a main course of whole fried red snapper with garlic shrimp with 1/2 fries and 1/2 yucca . Check them out when in Panama City .
The whole fish platter was way too fried and left very little unfried flesh to eat. The fish was covered in a brown sauce made of a variety of seafood that created a blah mishmash. The free ceviche starter was tough, tasteless, and inedible. However, the bottles of Balboa beer were cold. The eating complex is a tourist trap.
We ordered two different types of grilled fish. One with “coconut” rice and the other with boiled yuca. Although it seemed to take forever to arrive, the grilled fish was very good. The sides were generous and ok. Couldn’t taste any coconut flavor in the rice and some of the yuca pieces were a bit undercooked. All and all we enjoyed the fish and the festive attitude.
