Red Frog Beach Island Resort
Panama
Avis
This resort was an amazing choice. As soon as I arrived at the lobby, the staff quickly escorted me to my villa. The villa I got was villa #15 and that very villa was spectacular. The view from the boucany was unreal. We got ocean view AND jungle view. We had a great time ziplining and a great time exploring the island. It is highly recommended that you rent a golf cart. Without a golf cart you could be walking 20 min in the rain. The La Rosa Beach club has divine food and drinks. From our villa we got the view of sloths, parrots, and monkeys. Besides a few uninvited bugs that visited our room, everything was spectacular.
Beautiful place, great hospitality, they took our bags to the villa, good check in. We were quite shocked at how they didn’t have a coffee machine to make proper cappuccinos, considering Panama as being known for its coffee, for a 4 star resort it was very sad. They only had filter coffee. The villa was beautiful, clean, but the beds were broken and shaky, couldn’t sleep well at all, good aircon, beautiful views. The shower water pressure was very low, had to dance around to get wet and the shower is part of the experience you know, it’s like a happy place for me. We loved seeing sloths, red frogs and monkeys. The massage with Sarah was definitely a different and exotic experience, felt really good and released afterwards. It was in a beautiful nature setting with a pathway through the jungle. The restaurant has a nice beach front view. The food was good but not gastronomically exceptional. We got some free craft beers to try out before they put it on the menu, the restaurant manager Sain was very kind. The cocktails were really great! The staff were very friendly and very helpful! When you are a person who is finicky about certain things and little details it might not be the perfect place for you, but overall we had a really good time!
Location is great. Resort is beautiful. Everyone that works on site is lovely. Sergio at the front desk is amazing. Simon who cares for the beach is awesome. The poor rating comes from the reservations desk and operational issues that could be improved on. The reservation desk doesn’t communicate properly with on site staff. They also were completely unresponsive to my emails and didn’t follow through on agreed upon credits after check out.
We were so happy to arrive and were nicely greeted from the boat in Bocas town to the resort reception area. Our jungle casita wasn’t ready yet so we were ported to the beach club where we sat in the pool, and ordered lunch & drinks. Food and service were fine. Not exactly 5 stars, as they claim (and you pay), but good. When we were able to check in, we were so happy about our room selection and excited to spend 3 nights! Really beautiful layout and spacing - with separate sleeping and sitting areas, along with a plunge pool, immersed in the jungle, with a distant view of the ocean. Overall, I question the 5 star claim and pricing. The service lacked care, efficiency and courtesy. For example, we waited over an hour to check out. In most cases, we don’t require help to move our bags but Red Frog is a big, mountainous resort, without all roads paved so it’s difficult to move around, with multiple bags, without the help of a golf cart. Because we had a flight to catch, this wait made me anxious and also prevented us from having lunch in town. The grounds are clean, well maintained and you can see a ton of wildlife up close, which is special. We saw sloths, monkeys, red frogs, walked to Polo Beach and the neighboring restaurants at Palmar Hotel. If you want top 5 star service, and food, this isn’t it. But if you want a secluded environment, with access to nature, animals, a beautiful room, well maintained grounds and the other stuff doesn’t matter as much, do it!
