Contadora Island is located around 32 miles off the Pacific coast of Panama City and it is the most developed island in the Pearl Archipelago. Contadora is a year round popular tourists destination in the country and it is considered the Pacific coast equivalent to popular Caribbean coast destinations in Panama such as Bocas del Toro and Comarca Guna Yala. This place is literally paradise, with beautiful white sand beaches and turquoise waters, many coral reef formations and the only official nude beach in the country.
The most popular beaches of the island are Playa Larga, the Swedish beach, Playa Cacique, Executive Beach and Playa Galeon. They are close by to each other.
In addition, there are five main coral reef formations that are very popular within divers and you can also get sport fishing trips around Contadora.
Contadora is a relatively high end destination as many millionaires have chosen it to be their vacation spot, so if you explore the town, don’t be surprised when you come across some very nice mansions. The Island has paved roads on its main avenues and can be toured around by golf carts or motorbikes that can be rented there.
There are several options for accommodation and a lot of restaurants offering international and Panamanian cuisine.On a separate note, Contadora is very well known worldwide as it has been the host of the popular American TV show Survivor three times. The island served as the base of operations and official accommodation place for the show’s crew.
How to get there?
By Plane from Albrook Airport in Panama City: There are daily flights to Contadora and it takes 25 minutes.
By Ferry: Everyday at 8:00 am from Brisas de Amador in Causeway, returning at 3pm from Contadora. It takes 1 hour and 30 minutes one way. It is recommended to call in advance at +507 391-1424 for reservations and confirmation on schedules because they are subject to change without notice.
