Description
The Pearl Islands, located 35 miles (1.5 hours) from Panama City, have a rich history as a pirate hideout and key site during the Spanish conquest of the Americas. Today, Las Perlas Islands offer white-sand beaches, clear waters, and diverse marine life, making them ideal for beach lovers, water sports enthusiasts, and nature seekers.
Your trip starts with a passenger ferry departing from Flamenco Marina on the Amador Causeway. Along the 2-hour journey, you may see ships waiting to cross the Panama Canal, playful dolphins, and from July to November, humpback whales.
Upon arrival at Contadora Island, a free shuttle transports you to either the Mar y Oro Hotel on the southeast-facing Cacique Beach or Pimienta y Sal Restaurant on the northeast-facing Larga Beach, depending on your selection. Both locations provide beach chairs, umbrellas, restroom facilities, showers, a complementary lunch, and two drinks.
Guests can explore the island village on foot or rent golf carts. Contadora features beaches such as Playa Cacique, Playa Larga, Playa Ejecutiva, and Playa Sueca, Panama’s only designated nude beach. Snorkel gear is available for rent to explore nearby reefs.
