Directions to Isla Mamey
Beautiful Caribbean island located in the district of Portobelo, neighboring the island of monkeys, its white sand beach with row of coconut palms, facing a warm sea of turquoise water.
We invite you to enjoy the Panamanian Caribbean, an ideal destination to relax and forget about the stress of the city. If you decide to go by bus, you must take it from the Albrook Terminal, on the 'Panama-Colon' line, get off at Sabanitas, next to the 'El Rey' Supermarket and wait for a bus from the Costa Arriba Route, in the town of Puerto Lindo falls and then you take the boat that will cross you to this charming island.
Depart from Panama City and start the drive to Portobelo and Isla Mamey. On the way, you will drive right past the Pedro Miguel Locks of the Panama Canal and have a chance to observe transiting ships. You will also see the famous Centenario Bridge, sections of Soberania National Park, and the beautiful Caribbean coast near the end of the drive. If need be, you can also stop at a supermarket to buy any food, drinks, or other supplies you want for the day.
In Portobelo, you will get the chance to walk around and learn about the town’s history. Visit the historic forts, which were attacked and nearly destroyed by pirates. Learn about the Afro-Antillean culture and visit the church of the Black Christ of Portobelo. Finally, you’ll also have the option to enjoy the boat ride around the Portobelo Bay.
Time to relax on the beaches of Mamey Island. You can go snorkelling among the coral reefs and observe fish. Or, follow the path surrounded by palm trees and enjoy a natural breakwater formed by rocks. Enjoy a picnic or BBQ. You will also have the option to pass through the Tunnel of the Love, a pathway through the mangroves or visit the spider monkeys at Linton island.
