Description
Your guide and driver will pick you up at your Panama City accommodation for a 40-minute drive past colonial American neighborhoods and the Culebra Cut. Arriving at Lake Gatun, you will enter dense rainforest surroundings full of wildlife activity.
Board a boat on the Chagres River, leading into Gatun Lake, a biodiversity hotspot where you can see coatis, howler monkeys, squirrels, sloths, toucans, and parrots. The route stays close to the Panama Canal and enters Soberanía National Park on the way to the Gamboa Public Docks, where the river meets the canal.
Shortly into the boat ride, you will enter the Panama Canal and pass the Dredging Division facilities and shipping lanes, passing several large cargo ships. The boat then heads toward Monkey Island.
On Monkey Island, listen for the calls and movement of primates as monkeys jump between trees. Expect the monkeys to approach and inspect your belongings, offering numerous photo opportunities.
After the island visit, the tour returns to the starting point and back to Panama City.
