San Blas Islands 4x4 Self-Drive Tour from Panama City

This guided day tour suits adventurous travelers driving their own 4x4 from Panama City to the San Blas Islands, exploring four key spots with a local Guna guide.

Description

Depart from Panama City hotels or Airbnb around 5:30 am, coordinating your meeting point with the operator. The tour requires traveling in a rented 4x4 vehicle, which is mandatory for accessing the islands via the Pan-American Highway to Guna Yala, San Blas.

The mountainous, winding road offers a unique driving experience resembling a natural roller coaster. Follow the tour leader’s vehicle for safety as you approach the islands. The group meets at Niga Kantule Port where the tour team awaits.

Between 8:00 am and 8:30 am, board the assigned boat to visit four locations: the Sunken Ship near Dog Island, a natural pool, and two additional islands selected based on tide and time (possible islands include Chichime, Isla Aguja, Isla Guasirdub, Gagandub, or Aroma). The tour also includes a cultural visit to a local Indigenous Guna community.

The full tour runs roughly from 8:45 am to 3:30 pm and includes Caribbean lunch and a welcome cocktail of either mojito or coco loco.
