Reviews
Even with high expectations after reading reviews and with the whole Top 50 restaurants thing, Maito exceeded our expectations. We had the Chombasia menu with maridaje. This place takes you through a journey that shows Panama's cuisine, mixing Caribbean, Panamá and Asian influences. The sequence was perfect, and the wines were great and not obvious. Thanks to Nazare and Edwin for a great experience. Totally recommend this place.
After almost three weeks away this was by far and away the best meal I had, a perfect last hurrah. I had the drink paired degustation menu which was brilliant - the pairings were well thought out, and jumped through cocktails and wine which was very cleverly done. Cocktails here were brilliant by the way, often overlooked in restaurants but someone here really knows what they’re doing 😊 Was surprised that it was the perfect amount of food, I often find menus like this it’s too much or not enough but finished this just right…. Sad I’m leaving before visiting their sister restaurant, will def be back when I’m in Panama next
I am not sure this restaurant deserves to be on a '50 Best' list. The food was very good, but not exactly a 'wow' experience. Perhaps what prevented us from fully enjoying it was that we felt rushed to eat. Our server pushed us to order our entrees and main courses from the very start. The dishes were served without any pauses in between, and after less than hour and a half (2 hours should be de min), we were asked to move to the bar because the next guests were waiting for our table. The food was good, but overall, it wasn't worth it.
Make a reservation, as it is a popular restaurant. It truly was one of the best meals we had in Panama. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday. We enjoyed a few appetizers and ordered two meat main courses. Their Old Fashioned is amazing, with coffee accents and made with local rum. They take America express which is always a plus. The only disappointment was that it was my husband's birthday, and I had mentioned it in the reservation, hoping they could do something special to celebrate him. Unfortunately, they didn't, which was a bit disappointing, but overall, the experience was memorable.
