Airport Information

Whether flying into Panama or around this beautiful country, here you will find all the information needed in regards to the international and domestic airports.

Tocumen International Airport Information

Tocumen International Airport (IATA code: PTY) is the only international airport in Panama and is located 15 miles (24 km) from Panama City. It is Central America's biggest and busiest airport by passenger traffic and also the only one with two fully operational runways.
Several hotels will offer pick-up service from the airport with shuttle bus or private car so you might want to ask for this service prior to arriving. However, if you haven’t arranged any pick up, the best way to transfer to the city is by taxi. There are also buses available but there is no proper bus station around. You will need to walk out the airport and find the nearest bus stop on the street side so we wouldn’t recommend using this alternative.  The standard taxi fee from the airport to Panama City is USD 20 but could be a little bit more if you are staying in a non-centric location. You should try to negotiate the taxi fee before taking it because there are no taximeters and the driver might try to rip you off. You should also make sure the fee the taxi driver is telling you will cover your luggage transport. Some drivers might want to charge extra per bag and you don’t want to find that out after you arrived at your destination.
The fastest and nicest route to take to the city is by using the Corredor Sur (Southern Highway). It will get you there in around 15 minutes but please note that there is a toll to pay (around USD 3) and most taxi drivers will charge it to you. If you don’t want to use the highway, make sure to tell your driver and expect to take around 45 minutes to get to the city.

Albrook Airport

The Marcos A. Gelabert Airport, commonly known as Albrook Airport (IATA code: PAC), is located west of downtown Panama City and is the main domestic airport of Panama. From Albrook Airport you can take daily flights to every major city in Panama using any of their domestic airlines. Albrook Airport operates domestic flights to 25 domestic destinations and to San Jose, Costa Rica.  The most popular destinations to go from this airport are Contadora (Pearl Islands), Comarca Guna Yala and Bocas del Toro. Private flights are also operated from this airport.
The best way to go to this airport is also by taxi. The fares are quite cheap in the city and it is just convenient as there are no direct buses to there.
