The Santa Maria Golf Club is designed by Nicklaus Design, the global golf firm founded by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. The 18-hole course is developed in an area of 284 hectares, and is conveniently located in Panama City, Panama.

The Santa María Golf Club presented a unique opportunity for developers and the design team to work with a clean canvas. Largely due to the existing terrain, natural land forms were created for the golf course route. The golf course was built using the most modern construction techniques, including the construction of USGA greens, covering all playing surfaces, which not only ensures adequate drainage, but also provides a solid growth medium for the turf and improves the gameplay of the field.
 
It measures 7,153 yards from the championship marks (back tees) and offers four tee locations to accommodate the accomplished golfer and also the beginning player.
 
The strategy is designed to always provide the player with a safe route to the green, but with a well placed bunkering. Each player has the ability to score with the correct placement of the ball and the execution of the shot. Importance is given to the short game, especially around well-contoured greens, which allow a variety of pin locations.
