Things to do in Panama

The lagoon is undoubtedly a beautiful place where you can camp, fish, climb the Cerro Picacho or simply give yourself a delicious bath in its waters. It is 25 kilometers from the Interamerican Highway, entering through the street that is right next to the Mini Super Las Lajas, before reaching the King of Coronado.

From there you drive until you see a stone road on the right which you must enter. If you go by public transport, in the mini super mentioned above you can take a bus and the ticket is around $ 1.50. The lagoon has approximately two hectares and is fed mainly by underground water currents and some water jets that fall when it rains. There is always someone available to tell the stories of the place; it is said that in the center of the lagoon there is no bottom (legends); One of the most significant and mysterious of the stories was that of about 30 years ago 'some foreigners came to the lagoon investigating its depth, fauna and flora, but to their surprise, entering the indicated diver in the lagoon, he found a cave from which he took out a plate and a glass of gold. When he came to the surface, he showed his partner what he had found and he excitedly told him to go again to look for more of the gold dishes, because surely there were many more objects with much more value ... they discussed the matter for a while and the diver agreed to go in to see if he could find something else ... but what he found was death because he never showed up. He lost himself in the depths of the lagoon because of his greed. ' Mr. Gregorio always receives his visitors with great encouragement, willing to help them in whatever they need or looking for a way to make the time more enjoyable.

It is also known as Laguna Grande or Laguna de Coronado, it is easy to travel, it measures less than a kilometer, so you can walk to its sides and observe it from different points and take excellent photos. They told us that fish have been grown and some very large ones can be taken, at night the currents drag large shrimp up to 1 and 2 pounds.

Around you can see different birds, sometimes sparrowhawks and small herons that brighten the place with their sounds and some cormorants (Phalacrocoracidae) have come to make this place their home. The frogs that in the evenings, they mate, rumbling incredible sounds, like the cicada that never stops singing.

The water of the lagoon is always delicious to bathe, in fact we have submerged at night and incredibly at high hours the temperature of the water is lukewarm, and in the afternoon the mist lowers touching the water, to the point that sometimes it is difficult to see the person who is meters away from you. In summer, the wind is so strong that it creates small waves, giving the impression of being in the sea.

Currently they have a restaurant with a bathroom in which they sell fish from the lagoon and some salt water, delicious, accompanied with patacones or rice, at different prices and sizes. They also sell soft drinks and in the mornings you can taste delicious ojaldas and coffee.

Entery ticket  has a cost of 2.00 per person. If you are going to camp, the cost per night depends on the size of the campsite.
