I had a good stay here. The staff, except for one person, don't speak English, which can make things a bit difficult, but it's manageable. The location is great, and breakfast is simple, but hey, it's free! :) The hostel itself is very nice. The only downside is that the room is very cramped. There were 12 beds in total, all very close together, with maybe 3 square meters of floor space, so no room for suitcases or anything like that. However, each bed has its own light, power outlet, and curtains.
Completely infested with roaches in every room, including in the kitchen silverware. Edit: My name is Dan, and I was there from mid until late December 2025. Now they can't claim to "not know who this is". I asked about where to go for a yellow fever vaccine and was directed to a neighborhood my driver said wasn't even safe for locals, let alone tourists. When trying to extend my stay, the manager - trying to get me to pay more for future days - insisted I had paid more than I had for the past days. When I produced electronic credit card documentation proving I had not, he suggested I "must have paid more in cash". I told him that wasn't possible since I had no cash and hadn't used an ATM in the country yet. I only had foreign pesos. Not an enjoyable stay overall, and the roaches are truly disgusting and unsanitary. Not a friendly vibe from the staff. Unwritten house rules that you get yelled at for rather than politely informed of. Quiet hours that no one enforces. Long term residents are scary, telling you about which cartel their family is in or which lawyer they threatened to kill yesterday. If breakfast doesn't include everything advertised and you mention it, they just ignore you and don't respond. Location is decent and TVs in rooms are smart. Front door is sometimes left open and keys barely work to open it. They don't do simple or obvious basic maintenance, like oiling the key for the door or closing holes around sinks where roaches enter and exit rooms. Instead, they make their problem yours by telling you that you cannot eat food you paid for in a room you paid for. You can only eat on the ground floor. But guess what? There's roaches on every floor! I stayed in 3 different rooms with 3 different bathrooms. Every single room and bathroom had them. Crawling down the walls next to your head when you go to bed, walking around your toothbrush on the sink, etc. I wasn't fast enough to get pictures or videos of the big ones. Will not return.
Service was excellent. I had a long layover in Panama and my check in was at 3 pm but they allowed me to drop off my luggage. The reception is very nice and willing to help.
