During the 19th and 20th centuries, eight Temples were erected— in Turkmenistan, the United States, Uganda, Australia, Germany, Panama, Western Samoa and India— pending only the construction of a House of Worship in South America. In the 1950s, plans were made to locate that temple in Chile. The long-awaited process leading to the construction of the Temple began in 2001. Construction concluded in 2016 thereby culminating the era of the continental Bahá’í Houses of Worship. Alongside the central structure of the House of Worship, which is dedicated to prayer and the remembrance of God, various dependencies dedicated to social, humanitarian, educational and scientific activities will gradually be established for the benefit and wellbeing of society. Now that the construction of the continental Temples has concluded, first steps are being taken to establish local and national Houses of Worship in various localities around the world.
