The name 'Panama' means 'abundance of fish', and the Playa Reina area offers some of the most abundant fishing waters in the entire region. Panama also offers a wide variety of tropical fruits and fresh vegetables, with a rich culinary heritage.
AlaMAR offers a unique atmosphere facing the sea and in front of the swimming pool, in a comfortable and beautiful environment, a place that you will want to return to again and again. Chef, cooks and assistants are local Panamanians from the village of Mariato, trained through generations of family chefs using local seafood recipes and a handful of a few different chefs who have helped to tailor exquisite seafood menu to what it is today.
They have created a menu of healthy, indulgent foods, based on traditional seafood dishes in fusion with other international dishes. At AlaMAR, culinary philosophy is simple. Healthy food, local products, indulgent flavor, traditional Panamanian dishes with international fusion and beautiful presentation. At Hotel Playa Reina, the highlight of most of their guests is dinner at AlaMar Restaurant, with a fresh glass of your favorite wine in your hand, enjoying a good conversation, while listening to the waves breaking on the Pacific Coast.
Moments like these tend to be the moments when relationships flourish, new friendships are established, and the words of gratitude flow from the mouth, mind and soul. Originally established in 1980, the now AlaMAR restaurant was once the venue called 'La Cantina', which was the epicenter of the social scene of Playa Reina and Mariato. 'La Cantina' was the place where the townspeople gathered to socialize, watch the surfers ride the waves and appreciate the beautiful sunsets where the sun fades over the sea between the Cebaco Islands and Isla Coiba.
Today, the restaurant AlaMAR has a new and improved face, and is for many guests, the most valuable part of the Playa Reina Hotel experience, since it is still the social meeting point for locals and foreigners who live in this area.
