El Palmar - Panama

Sometimes, mainly on weekends, there are some people placed a bit before the beach collecting money as a “parking fee”. Although it is not mandatory to pay (the beach is public), it is a good idea to do so to ensure your car’s safety.

Directions to El Palmar

Located a bit after San Carlos town, El Palmar is a very popular beach for beginner surfers and leisure. It has a very long sand area, perfect for sunbathing and relax.

This beach  is very popular among locals from Panama City to go  during weekends. There is also a surf camp located on this beach , making it crowded most of the times.

The beach offers 2 breaks to try out:

Frente Palmar (Palmar Front)

It is a rock bottom beach break right in front of the surf camp. The break is a close-out and perfect for beginners.

Punta Palmar (Palmar Point)

It is a rock bottom point break at the right hand side of the beach break. This point break has right peeling waves at medium to high tide. However, depending of the swell sometimes the spot does not break well, but when it does, it gets quite powerful.
